Slip and Fall Notebook

Books reviewed in this section are those that address issues involved in slip and fall cases. These are books, I found to be helpful to both the safety professional and the practicing attorney.
Slip and Fall Practice, by Charles E. Turnbow, JD, PE, James Publishing Inc., Costa Mesa (2002)
This review is for one of earlier editions. The entire book was revised in 1994 and again in 2002. The chapters are arranged to assist the reader in finding most of the information for a particular type of case in one section of the book. The 2002 edition of book is accompanied by a CDROM which contains all of the forms and outlines in WordPerfect, Microsoft Word and PDF formats. Reprints of the 2000 International Building Code and the 1997 Uniform Building Code, as well as the governmental playground safety regulations are on the CD.
The Staircase, Studies of Hazards, Falls, and Safer Design by John Templer, PhD, MIT Press, (1992)
Despite the fact that this book is now 10 years old, both the research reported in the book and the science is solid. Dr. Templer was the author of a companion book, The Staircase, History and Theory, which provides insight into the design and artistic criteria of stairways. The latter is a good read but the first book is a must for both the safety professional and the attorney.
CalDAG/2000 California Disabled Accessibility Guidebook 2000 by Michael B. Gibbens, Builders Books, Inc. (2000)
Human Walking edited by Jessica Rose and James G. Gamble, Second Edition, Williams & Wilkins (1994)
Time Saver Standards for Landscape Architects, by Charles W. Harris and Nicholas T. Dines, McGraw Hill (1988)
Guidelines for Stair Safety by John Archea, Belinda Collins and Fred Stahl, U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (1979)
